For the last six months, I have been part of the Artist Relations department at Sony Music Entertainment. Jobs include organising tickets for label contacts at Sony artist shows, hospitality, helping at events and album launches, and birthday presents for all Sony artists. From the Communications part of the role, I curate a media briefing of online and newspaper cuttings to send to the exec committee, organise the weekly Comms meeting, update the internal staff website, and assist VP Communications Ben Todd.
Since late 2013, I have hosted, produced and researched a music review show with co-host Will Butler. Each week, we reviewed new songs released and discuss our opinions about said releases. Roles included researching the show, sourcing tracks and a guest, uploading tracks to Myriad, and editing audio for the weekly podcast. You can hear previous shows here: https://www.mixcloud.com/CSRReviewShow/
Over the course of 2014 and 2015, I have worked at NME on both the editorial desk and the marketing department. Working in editorial included transcribing interviews for NME journalists, writing reviews and searching for news stories for the news team. Working for the marketing team included scheduling social media, writing copy for competitions and updating the database of previous magazines. I was also lucky enough to work on the NME Awards, which included me working with the promotional team and setting up the event venue.
Over the last year I spent at university, I held the position of Communications Manager at CSRfm, the student radio station at the University of Kent. This role includes the supervision of a marketing team (online, social media, events and design), organising events, creating marketing plans for certain aspects of the station’s off-air output, and working with executive board CYSM on the future aims of the station. As a result of my work as Communications Manager, I was nominated for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Student Media’ at the I Love Student Radio Awards, as well as ‘Best Audience Initiative’. In the Student Radio Awards 2015, the work that CSRfm did in regard to marketing resulted in a Bronze Award for ‘Best Marketing and Station Sound’.
My course was a joint honours between English Literature and Philosophy. I focused mainly on more modern texts within English, my favourite module an indepth look into Black Poetry and writings in North America in the 20th and 21st century. With Philosophy, I chose mainly to focus on the ethics side of the course, looking particularly into Political Philosophy and its relevance to the world we live in.
