With a postgraduate diploma in journalism, I have approximately 15 years of experience working as a researcher, writer and editor. During my career, I have successfully adopted a wide range of writing styles - producing everything from legal content for the UK government's Business Link website to humorous marketing emails for the daily deals company Living Social. I am a conscientious individual and a stickler for good grammar.
I researched, wrote and edited daily and weekly legal bulletins, updating lawyers on the latest news, journal articles, cases, legislation, official publications and events relating to the sectors in which they practised. During my time in this role, I produced a bulletin writers' style guide. Prior to this, I researched, wrote and edited the content on the government's Business Link website, including regulatory updates.
I wrote humorous marketing emails for the daily deals website Living Social.
I researched and wrote news and features for companies’ websites, adhering to SEO principles, and uploaded them onto a content management system. I was also responsible for editing the copy of colleagues.
I monitored a variety of media sources and wrote celebrity news stories, including HTML tags, based on this research. I then uploaded the stories onto a content management system.
I wrote a column for the Huddersfield Examiner, as well as regularly contributing other articles to the newspaper.
As editor of a guide book and a magazine about Leeds, I was responsible for a team of writers. I recruited writers and assigned and edited their work, ensuring they adhered to the company’s in-house style guide.
I worked as a freelance news and sports reporter for companies such as Sky Television and Viking FM Radio.
I was the sports presenter on the Magic 828 breakfast show and assistant producer on Radio Aire’s exclusive Leeds United Live programme. I combined my sports role with general news duties.
I organised filming locations, identified experts on various aspects of law, composed questions for interviewees, collected material for graphics, operated the autocue, produced the daily call-sheet and took minutes, as well as liaising with the legal researchers and various producers to ensure the whole production process ran smoothly.
