Having a degree in Fine Arts means I’ve explored several artistic disciplines, from traditional painting and sculpture to more contemporary art forms such as performance. My preferred media are painting (especially action painting), photography and installation.
My interest in using art as a way of sublimation comes from a neurological phenomenon I have always experienced called synaesthesia, which means my senses get in each others’ way and so this allows me to see sound, smell colours or taste textures, for instance. Furthermore, I am profoundly curious about the subconscious mind and questioning the term “reality”.
I have always found the human mind quite fascinating. With no intention of romanticizing the term “madness”, I genuinely believe there is a certain beauty in this kind of chaos.
My need to get involved with the art piece goes beyond just being a part of it: I must be inside of it, to become one with it. The result is as absurd and mysterious as tasting colours or as the sensation of silence touching our skin. Art is my means of survival. Without it, I would completely lose what is usually referred to as “sanity”. I would lose the unknown quality that keeps my feet on the ground. Consequently, the intention behind my artistic work is based on the fact that I find the idea of “reality” as disturbing as a feeling of claustrophobia. I have seen more, and if this labels me as “crazy”, then I welcome the expression with open arms.
