I never felt anything like it before. I had been rummaging through old pictures, scouring through every photo album we had in the house, looking to collect every picture that held a memory, a story, the stories of our lives together. I laid them all out in front of me looking to piece them together. A puzzle of pictures, a mosaic of moments. Plunging into each and every photo, envisioning the path to tell my story - as I wanted to tell it. But as I did this, something incredible happened. I realised that the pictures chose themselves. It wasn’t about the story I wanted to tell, it was about the story they told - They spoke to me, jumping out as if they had always known their order, as if they had always known their place. Suddenly everything was made clear as it unfolded right before my eyes. One by one, page by page, I rushed to digitise my final selection. I forgot about the world around me. Sitting in a windowless room, I couldn't tell you what time of day it was. Hours passed in what felt like minutes. Before I knew it, I was finished - I summoned everyone into my “studio”, to what I didn't realise at the time, would be my very first screening. I pressed play and a wave of silence rose through the room. Not once did I turn to look at anyone else, until about a second before the piece finished. I turned back to catch my audience’s faces, and right then and there my heart exploded. They were all crying.
Film can take you places, and I want to be there. This is a story about passion.
