About me
I am an enthusiastic graphic design student who is passionate about art, design and music and constantly strives to reflect this in my work. Although I am interested in working with branding, illustration, packaging and editorial design, I am flexible and always interested in learning new things. I am hard-working, dedicated and I work well under pressure. I have had positive experiences working independently as well as in a group.

  • Sally Clarke Cookbook Concept
Sally Clarke Cookbook ConceptMy solutions to the cookbook design brief: This cookbook design brief was a fairly open one which allowed me to be a bix flexible in its design. Though it was primarily a typesetting brief, I wanted to take this as an opportunity to experiment with editorial design and exercise some of my other skills including illustration. I had the chance to try out bookbinging techniques (coptic binding in this case) to focus on the tactile aspect of cookbooks and reinforce the more hand-made artistic feel

  • Form + Letter + Word
Form + Letter + WordFoundation Project: Form+Letter+Word This project was unlike any other since it was representative rather than abstract. It was also more conceptual in the sense that we had to depict the meaning of the word we picked. From a small selection of words, I picked ‘surprise’ after experimenting with a series of little mock models. I went with this structure since it looked like an explosion. I also introduced various elements of surprise within each letter. For the letter’ ‘s’, I left the ends open so when viewed from different angles it would be hidden from view and would then be suddenly visible. The letter ‘i’ has a large void in the centre and the tip of it continues on the other side. I also used varying sizes of the letters ‘r’ and ‘s’. After constructing the form, it had to be photographed in different settings or angles that would emphasize on the meaning of the word or that would represent it in one way or the other. I mainly experimented with hand gestures and light. I took a series of photographs where it looked like I was tossing the word in the air or that it was levitating. I found the hand gestures to be very expressive so I was fairly content with the results. The model was photographed at different times of the day to test the effects of natural light. At day time, certain parts of the model would be highlighted while others remained in shadow. At around sunset, the silhouette highlighted the negative spaces of the model.
  • Transition
TransitionFoundation Project - Transition With this project, I was encouraged to experiment with a range of new materials aside from chip board. I also wanted to move away from the use of rectangular forms so I decided to work with triangles instead. After a series of trials with different materials of varying textures, I went ahead with embossed card paper. The form had to have a dynamic quality while demonstrating a transition. I showed transition in colour and in the varying heights of the triangular modules. By using two layers of card for each module I created a transition of colour within individual components of the model and maintained a consistency with the paper’s texture. The form had to be symmetric so I started off with the centre and worked my way outward, gradually reducing the height of every module as I moved along. My favourite part about the form is that even though it is entirely symmetric, it looks different with every angle it’s placed in and stands in more than one way which was a feature I certainly appreciated (can be seen below). Another restriction was that I could use only one other colour aside from the colour of the material. I intially worked with complementary colours (blue and orange) but it was too overpowering. I settled with blue and yellow since they still managed to complement one another without being too harsh to look at. Interestingly enough, when placed at an angle, the colours inside darken so the yellow transitions into a more pleasant orange and the blue gets relatively darker too.

  • 100+ Colour
100+ ColourFoundation Project: 100+ [colour] This project required us to explore any one material to create a form that addressed dynamic formal issues. Aside from using only one material, there were other restrictions that made this particular project more challenging. Each piece had to have an area of less than 25 cm2 and had to have no less than four sides which made it quite difficult to demonstrate a dynamic quality in the form. There also had to be a variety of at least 10 different sizes and a minimum of 100 separate pieces. The pieces could only be placed perpendicular to each other. With regard to colour, it could only be applied to 20 pieces, on one side only. In addition, only two hues could be used. The colour was an important aspect in making the form more dynamic. Therefore, it had to be applied very carefully in order to move one’s eye around the structure. Prior to this model, I had developed one without colour and with this model, I resolved structural issues evident in the previous one. Aside from developing the form, I added more features to it so it would be able to stand in more interesting positions and decreased the weight of certain components to ensure its stability. By using repetition and a variety of forms and planes of different sizes, I created visual depth that enhanced the dynamic nature of the form.
Work history
    Student
BA in Graphic and Communication Design
    Graphic Design Intern
     -
This placement involved working on branding collateral for start-ups in Dubai although I did get to work on some corporate projects as well. Aside from client work, I was encouraged to work on a personal branding project. I had the opportunity to illustrate, to assist with packaging, layouts, uniform designs, stationary and presentations.
