As a member of staff at the museum, I am responsible for the front-of-house duties and customer service, including data recording, updating spreadsheets, researching potential clients, greeting the visitors, selling the tickets and gift shop items, servicing the bar/coffee shop and keeping a positive atmosphere and general up keep of the premises.
- As a gallery assistant I was employed to help with a wide range of duties that required me to work on my own but also as a part of team. These roles varied from covering the reception desk, through invigilation and poster promotion to bartending at the events and assisting the artists. Receptionist - Covering the reception desk put me into role where I had to act independently without any supervision. I was responsible for basic administrative duties like answering to emails, receiving post, booking rooms for workshops. Beside communication and customer service skills, I also developed sales skills while selling paintings, prints and other art works to customers and offering workshops and courses based in Peacock Visual Arts. Dealing with the visitors’ diverse enquiries from questions regarding individual works and general agenda of the gallery, bestowed invaluable awareness of other people’s needs and interests. Artist’s assistant - Working closely with artists helped me to develop personal assistance and also technical skills where I had to apply my intellect but also physical strength. I was running errands for the artists, moving and setting up heavy electronic equipment, liaising with the public.
