- Leeds RAG cycle challenge: Leeds to PragueI was part of a team of 4 who organised and lead the University of Leeds' first endurance cycle challenge from Leeds to Prague. This involved organising all logistical aspects of the challenge, from liaising with sponsors to contacting bodies in other countries to set up ferry crossing, vehicle rental, accommodation amongst other aspects. We also ran events in the build up to the challenge, from fundraisers to social events so participants got to know the team and their piers. The team organised weekly meetings to discuss various aspects of the trip and to make sure we stuck to our time frame and plan. Teamwork and organisation ensured we remained on top of our roles and did not fall behind. We created and maintained a strict budget, documenting all of our spendings and other out-goings. I was in constant contact with the University who we reported to on a semi-regular basis so they could be kept up to date with our progress. Apart from these meetings we remained in total control of all aspects of the trip which also included such details as meal plans and creating the routes we would eventually cycle. We also fed progress onto the charity for which we were completing the ride in aid of. We organised for members of the charity to speak to our participants to motivate them for the ride and their fundraising. We also created a social media presence with the charity and received outside donations from our publishings on their Twitter account. During the ride itself, my leadership skills were tested as it was imperative that I communicated in such a manner that the safety of the group was maintained when cycling through busy cities and winding country lanes.
