Hey. My name is Robin Howie, I’m a citizen, designer, photographer, writer and strategist. I wear all of these hats as the Founder and Creative Director of Fieldwork Facility.
Fieldwork Facility is based out of London UK and we work internationally... as a studio we thrive on unusual design challenges, it’s why we describe ourselves as a design studio for uncharted territories... our work has been profiled in Wired, Bloomberg, Creative Review, Fastco and The Guardian.
Outside of the studio's client work I speak internationally about our approach to design... that design is a role of citizenship and that studio is an attitude, not a place. I also teach every now and then, typically at Kingston, Chelsea and Central Saint Martins.
Alongside Fieldwork Facility I’m a Partner at Intermission – a coffeeshop and roastery in business to change the rhythm of the world.

- Rewilding RaveRewilding Raves is our fourth project for the Climate Emergency Department of London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. This time they challenged us with ‘how might we celebrate and foster more nature and biodiversity in our private and shared places?’. Our approach was driven by the influx of younger generations finding joy in gardening throughout the pandemic and ‘Turn up the Volume’ — a recent research study that discovered music fans are much more likely to make climate based lifestyle chang
- Lineage for a Phantom ZoneLineage for a Phantom Zone is an immersive audio-visual installation that imagines a dream that the artist Sondra Perry wishes that she could have had. The work explores personal history as the roots of dreams, the erasure of Black history in the American South, and the dream space as a passage for reaching sites of heritage that are inaccessible. Upon entering the gallery space, the audience can smell the scent of oranges, immediately evoking a family myth. Perry’s grandmother has told the art
- intermission coffeeFor years provenance has been the norm for how to tell stories within coffee. But this is problematic: It romanticises and fetishises exotic places... glossing over the supply chain and all the people it takes to serve great coffee. Our strategy was to reset how we talk about coffee... instead of provenance we made Time our hero. Intermission is a coffeeshop that believes the time is now to act on addressing the challenges facing both the coffee industry and the planet. Their goal is to be at t1
- Zero DaysTeam Ineos (previously Team Sky and most recently Ineos Grenadiers) is the world’s greatest professional cycling team with seven Tour de France wins in its twelve year history. Fieldwork Facility joined a team of Performance Directors, Hygiene Experts and Behavioural Psychologists, together our challenge was to deliver a team-wide behaviour-change programme with an aim of losing Zero Days to avoidable illness throughout the pandemic and beyond. Team Ineos was already light years ahead of the fi1
- London is a ForestLondon is a city where nine million people live alongside eight point five million trees, according to one United Nations definition London classifies as a Forest. Writer Paul Wood journeys through London looking closely at the urban forest and our attitudes to it. Conceived as a series of forest trails Fieldwork Facility designed the original book in 2019 and updated the expanded edition in 2022.2
- Brent Cross Town wayfindingWe’ve designed the pedestrian wayfinding for Brent Cross Town. Billed as a Park Town for future London – Brent Cross Town is a multi-billion pound development with the aim of becoming the place in London to participate in sport and play. The development is a joint partnership between Argent Related with Barnet Council. Argent is the developer behind Kings Cross & Related behind Hudson Yards, NY. This is the first part of a wider FF project. We have been looking after the experience of a ten2
