Babe is a movement for girls who dgaf.
Launched in May 2016 by a few editors at The Tab, it already has 820,000 fans on Facebook and is visited by 2.2 million people a month, making it one of the fastest growing women’s sites on the internet.
Put simply, babe cares about big things, about real issues which affect American and British women from college age to their mid-twenties. Our contributors write about young women’s lives better than a lot of sites because they are young women. We don’t do patronising trend pieces about what girls are into or which apps they are using – we just talk about normal stuff.

If you don’t believe that, and you don’t believe in Astrology in general, then you are an idiot. Astrology is a beautiful, mystical art which allows us to truly see the people we really are. The things we like and dislike, what we wear, how we act, where we end up, it’s all dictated by the stars (duh). It’s not your personality, it belongs to the constellations, you’re just borrowing it.
- Babe's sexual consent survey finds that 91 per cent of female students say they’ve been groped on a night out‘It happens on such a casual basis that often you don’t even know who did it’ Nearly every female student has experienced being groped in a club, says new figures from Babe’s consent and sexual assault survey. The worldwide survey polled 14,000 students in the UK, and found that nationally a shocking 91 per cent of girls have been groped in a club. Overall, 82 per cent of students (male and female) have experienced groping. Men reported far less groping, but over half of them – 61 per cent – have still experienced it.

I replied without even thinking, without even looking at my phone, my fingers tapping out the one remaining mantra which unites all women across the world. “Probably just jeans and a nice top.” On average women speak 13,000 more words than men every day, but are any of those words as powerful as the phrase “jeans and a nice top”? Probably not. It’s the one thing we all collectively and instantly understand, the one outfit for every occasion, the uniform for nights out wherever you are, whoever you are. You cannot go wrong with jeans and a nice top. Do boys have the same insider language? Somewhere, right now, is there a boys WhatsApp group full of selfies and exchanges about which jeans and a nice top to wear? Probably not. It’s a signifier of the sisterhood. It’s something so deeply engrained in our collective psyche we don’t even stop to think about it anymore. But when you’re out tonight, queueing for the toilets, on the dancefloor, shivering in the smoking area, just take a second out and look around you. I guarantee you that every woman in this room has gone through several outfit variations before landing on this, the Old Reliable, the jeans and a nice top. Because it’s too cold for anything except jeans and a nice top. Because it’s jeans and a nice top season. Because it doesn’t really mean anything, because it’s an amorphous idea of fashion rather than an actual tangible outfit, everyone has managed to put their own stamp on it. Because everyone will always be searching for the elusive nice top. Because you always feel comfortable in jeans and a nice top, it’s always the vibe you need. I will probably wear jeans and a nice top to my own wedding.
