I have been working as a freelance photographer for all sorts of clients for over 13 years, photographing diverse subjects. These days I concentrate on creating documentaries, street photography and portraits. Despite having used other mediums it is photography that fascinates me, both for its immediacy and for its ability to reveal new ways of seeing. I use digital, film and instant for each mediums characteristics. “In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.” Alfred Stieglitz. Ultimately my work is about ways of seeing and exploring ‘self’ and ‘the world’. I do this through the medium of street, documentary and portrait photography. The portraits often form part of the documentaries, with candid portraits encompassed within the street photography. To quote Andre Kertesz: “Seeing is not enough; you have to feel what you photograph” I use exposition, occasionally rhetoric, sometimes combined with allegory or metaphor, in order to suggest narrative in the viewers mind. How my images are perceived is influenced by the use of such elements as colour, composition, subject and its placement. What I aim to achieve is to highlight a simple moment which elicits questions in the viewer’s mind about their own ‘worldview’.
