About me
Much of my experience stems from my background in Textile Design. I was trained at Chelsea College of Art, UAL and specialised in Screen print and knowledge in Digital print too. I have interned with Holly Fulton and Jane Bowler and was given various roles from jewellery designer, dresser, garment production and coordinator. My interest in the Textile (in relation to both Fashion and Interior) industry is part of my curiosity for all aspect of its supply chain. After finishing my Master's Degree in Sustainable Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art. It cemented my enthusiasm for sustainable and ethical practices within this industry. I continued on to spend the rest of my 2015 and all of my 2016 - on my own sustainable interior decor collection whilst attending evening classes at Birkbeck college learning about Business Innovation. My experience at Birkbeck has given me a more in depth understanding on business growth, entrepreneurship, supply chain management, globalisation and transnational corporations and the importance of human capital. As my love for the 'hands on' aspect textile design still resonates and will continue to be heavily part of my life, my interest in the Fast Fashion supply chain has given me an incredible drive to want to learn and grow. My MSc dissertation tackles the issue of Power in the Fast Fashion industry and the exploitation of Garment Workers and Customers for profit. My research was aimed at finding alternative way to improve the supply chain through stronger government intervention and policy change. I am currently looking for freelance work as an interior decorator as well as a full - time job in the Home Office of Fashion brands as a paid intern in the buying or supply chain department. Furthermore, as I am interested in gaining more experience I am open to work in PR, styling, merchandise and sample allocator. I believe it is important to expand my knowledge as wide a possible to get a more in depth and varied knowledge of this industry.
Projects
  • Petroleum to Platinum
Petroleum to PlatinumDo we know where our PET plastic drinking bottles go once we’ve discarded them? And do we really understand the impact not recycling is doing to our environment? PET plastic drinking bottle is the central material for my practice. Studying the capability of recyclability, which parallels greatly with second life. I wanted to explore this plastic material and its possibilities, to show its ability to innovate and surprise. My practice is aimed at answering the questions above. Exploring the need to recycle, to re-use existing materials and to care for our depleting natural resources. Body jewellery was an exemplary choice because of its rigid nature and 3D form. The challenge became to creating something alluring from something so mundane. My collection, ‘Petroleum to Platinum’ is like an alchemic journey through life and finding (new) life again; which is what I believe recyclability to be.
  • Indigo
IndigoThis was a project done during 2nd year. The textile samples was presented at Premier Vision, Paris, 2013. Since then the digital samples have been made into plates, cushions, and phone covers as well.
  • Flex
FlexThis was my first interiors project and sustainable project. I was studying the use of natural dyes using fruits and kitchen condiments that you can find in everyone's home.
  • Colour
ColourColour was a project based on the exotic beetles found in my hometown, Malaysia. These final samples was the result of what I've seen.
  • SPACE INVADERS
SPACE INVADERSThese images are a collection of hand drawings for my pre collection during my BA. The drawing were then made into fabric samples using a combination of black, white and metallic on Silk.
  • Graduate Collection
Graduate CollectionThese raincoats were for my Graduate Collection. I worked with Polyurethane fabric as well as Hydrochromic Ink. This Ink allows the print to disappear when wet and to reappear when dry. I wanted to show visual our relationship with the weather.

Education
MSc Business Innovation with Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
     -
I do not have a natural instinct for business and i found the only want to obtain it is to study it. I started evening courses at Birkbeck because I believe that this will maximise my changes of making my start-up a success. During this time I have learnt about business; how to maximise profit, how to run my business and how to grow. I have also been able to understand the growing importance for ethical responsibility within our world of capitalism and the fashion industry.
    Sustainable Textile Design
     -
Currently, in the development stage of my research. My study is to do with the PET drinking bottles. Looking for alternative inexpensive ways to recycle and upcycle into wearable art. I am also working building relationships with recycle facilities and my local council to educate children about the importance of recycling through creative workshops.
