About me
Communication Designer. Illustrator. Crafter. Artist... (sometimes a writer) Building, creating, and using my hands (and with a spoonful of coconut ice cream) has been a strong force in my whole life, and I am grateful to be able to continue using my imagination and building new stories as part of my career. I have been fortunate enough to have spent my early stages of my career working in Kenya for various organisations and individuals from various fields. As well as being able to explore and gain skills as a designer, I have also been able to develop my skills as a: team manager, project manger, marketer, logistics operator and hospitality/travel agent. In 2017 I spent a few months in Berlin, Germany (to learn German and explore the art scene) and in Norfolk, UK (to work on my photography composition and technical skills). Adapting to changes comes almost naturally to me now, and this positively reflects on my work ethic as well, to be open to change and accepting the unexpected. Learning has now become a habit, and I am continuously looking for new skills to learn... and have also fortunately come to a stage in my career where I am confident in teaching and guiding new, young, and excited creators. This has become a passion of mine, as I have always believed design (and art) is a universal communication tool, and I am looking forward to seeing how they participate in an ever growing globalised world.
Projects
  • Project TEA
Project TEAIt all started with a discussion held over a glass of wine with an old friend (a psychologist and Health System Strengthening specialist) on how we could make sex education more 'fun' and available to high-risk groups (children, young adults, women, drug users and low-income communities). TEA is an acronym for The Education of AIDs/HIV. The conversation started with the problems still faced in the prevention and treatment of AIDs/HIV, and from there the name was born. Upon research we both

  • MedE
MedEUI designs for a conceptual idea on how to streamline the process of data collection and analysis in the healthcare sector in Kenya. Inspired by talks given at the TICAD VI in Nairobi in August 2016.
  • Hand-drawn Typography
Hand-drawn TypographyMy love-hate relationship with typography started even before I knew what typography was. As a child I seemed to always instinctively recognise bad typography, pushing away any books with covers that had bad typography on it... and to this day I do try hard not to judge a book by it's cover... I started to hand-draw typography as a means to better understand the whole art of it, and to appreciate modern technology a little bit more :)
  • Animal Alphabet
Animal AlphabetWhen I decided to seriously work on my illustration skills I bought myself a graphics tablet... And this was the first project I worked on with it.

My Masters project was based on the idea of associating colour and smells (developed from the theory of synesthesia) to create personalised colour charts. The project was intended as a step towards helping build relationships, even for those who have social interaction problems because smell can be a powerful sense, and delving into the memories associated with smell could be used as as a powerful tool for social/marketing interactions. How one uses that information could help develop a 'kinder' relationship with someone, whether as friends or between companies and customers.
