Projects
  • TonTon Club
TonTon ClubI created the identity and signage at the location of Barcade/Exhibition space the TonTon club in the Red Light District of Amsterdam. Everything works with the TonTon token, a coin I designed, and was the base of the identity of the location. At the TonTon club there is a group of builders and designers that work together to create installations for different brands. I am also the curator of the interactive installations that are exhibited in the space. We have just opened a second venue at the Westergasfabriek, which has a japanese kitchen restaurant in it. And we hold a festival in Amsterdam once a year called TonTonXL where we exhibit interactive installations and games from around the world in combination with great food and drinks. The TonTon club is used as a platform to connect creators and brands to make it easier for brands to understand the power of installations for marketing purposes.
  • Whack a shot - Jagermeister
Whack a shot - JagermeisterAn installation made for Jagermeister. A different take on the classic whack a mole game. Jagermeister shots pop up and you have to whack them down as fast as possible. As you do so the meter in front of you will drop in temperature. The more jagermeisters you hit the further the temperature drops as you try to reach the ideal serving temperature for a shot, -18c. On the right, a meter is running as you have only 60 seconds to complete this game. Once you’ve reached the -18 you have won a Jaegermeister shot at the bar. The base of the machine is build of multiplex wood and the edges are reinforced with aluminium black profiles. The interface is laser cut from orange plexiglas, as are the decorations on top of the machine. The mechanics from an old whack a mole are used for the shots being popped up to hit.
  • 360 PingPong
360 PingPongAn installation made for TonTon XL march 2015. A ping pong table made round, so the player can use the surfaces all around him. This was a great project to do because of the freedom of the concept. Make something fun for the festival TonTon XL, which is a game/interactive installation festival. The idea popped into mind and without actually knowing wether this would work out or not, together with Scott van Haastrecht we build the 360 pingpong. It turned out to be quite an awesome game to play luckily. It was a great succes on the festival and now travels around to different festivals. The accessibility of this installation makes it work on many different locations, a well known game with a twist so everybody can play it, young and old.
  • Crane game - Jagermeister
Crane game - JagermeisterTogether with Jaegermeister we created the Jagermeister Crane game for a new bar in Amsterdam called Tapmarin. No more waiting at the bar, just grab the drink yourself! For €2 you could try to grab a cold Jagermeister from the machine, and keep trying till you got one. It’s an old crane game rebuild en redesigned. All of the panels were taken out and replaced with new wood, covered with stickers of the new design. The parts were spray painted black and the claw reinforced. A cooler was build on the bottom of the machine to make sure all the bottles were cold. The machine can be played at the bar Tapmarin
  • Squash air hockey - Jameson
Squash air hockey - JamesonFor Jameson we created the Squash Air hockey Table. A table where, instead of playing across form each other, you stand side by side. You have to score by playing the puck via the back of the table and let it bounce back in the goal of the opponent. The machine exterior is build from wood, and on top is the playing field, a laser cut Plexiglas piece of 1700mm x1500mm, with holes every 2,5 cm for air to be passed through by the 4 motors attached on the inside. The scoreboard works with split flaps. With messages to encourage the players in Jameson style in between the game, like “THATS THE IRISH SPIRIT”. A big upside to this machine is the space it takes. The problem we found with regular Air Hockey tables was that they took up way to much space in an office, gamehall or anywhere. By building it this way you can place it against a wall and not more than 2x2 meters is necessary.
  • STYN the machine
STYN the machineI have always been interested in building my own tools in design. In a time of digitalization of the work proces, you can easily forget the freedom and fun of play. By creating new tools, you give yourself the opportunity to break free from standards in design. As result of this idea I deconstructed a pinball machine an reconstructed it as a design tool. A poster is placed on top of the machine, which has a grid printed on it. Based on this grid you can structure your playing field to your desire. By playing the machine the balls create an unpredictable pattern, dependent on the interaction between the user and the machine. The better you are as a player, the better the poster that you create.
