Employed by the company to support a new initiative to grow the educational angle and find funding for a festival style event in Hull to raise the aspirations of young people in the community. This involved communication with the Director of Hull Kingston Rovers (Rugby Club) and the Head of a school (with whom Incyte work closely as School Improvement Partner). The role also entailed creating a platform for social media marketing, updating web content with the IT team, creating and sending mail outs and arranging training courses. Hull’s festival project instigated a week’s volunteer placement helping with fundraising applications for Swindon’s Children’s Festival run by Hannah Parry for the Mechanics Trust.
Experience building installation work helping with; construction of the Ice Palace in a Ballroom in Bloomsbury Square for a film company Christmas party, sewing and hanging a bespoke lining in a big top for Top Shop at London Fashion Week, OVO Christmas Party Installation at Motion Bristol, and Decoration of Hull University Event Space for a Ball.
Self Employed: 2007-2012 Soft Furnishing commissions and overflow for Karen Hughes Interiors, Hereford. Housekeeping, Farming, Administration and Gardening all of which increased ability to tackle new situations and improved emotional understanding. Most of the work incorporated an amount of caring for people that needed physical support.
Part time placement using the interior furnishing skills learnt whilst studying for City & Guilds qualification.
: Sales Assistant and Window Dresser 2005-2006 Shop floor assistant, customer care, running home visits to measure and give advice on styles and fabrics for window dressing. Achieved a promotion to head of styling and displays covering windows and in store interior sets resulting in increased footfall and winning interest from the general public.
Artist’s titles under which a variety of installations have been created for a number of Festivals, Events, Galleries and Exhibitions. Including: Glastonbury Festival, Shambala, Guilfest, Boomtown Fair, Big Green Gathering, London Temporary Autonomous Art, Boomtown launch parties and Generator Club nights, dressing venues from 300 capacity rooms at clubs like Lakota, Bristol, to 2950 capacity big tops on festival sites. Gaining experience of a variety of types of structure including; domes, yurts, clearspan and canvass marquees, as well as a drive to provide high quality work on tough budgets. Boomtown and Glastonbury are still running contracts with as many as 4 venues per event and management responsibilities for running teams of up to 14 hand selected volunteers to enable completion of the builds, on schedule.
Osmin Olives, Leintwardine: 2003-2005 Worked closely with the Company Director to build a new business based on the model and food of The Real Olive Company, Bristol, as a franchise experiment. Trained in processing of produce and developing of recipes. Taking out stalls to Farmers Markets and Food Festivals. In 2004, designed and built a deli at ‘The Apple Tree’, Onibury serving light lunches and organising a sellout Tapas night for 20 covers.
Laura Ashley, Clifton, Bristol: 2002-2003 Trained and worked within the home department in sales and customer advice, graduated to taking some responsibility within the store for setting up displays and devising better stock control systems to help smooth operation.
