  • My Type of Communication
My Type of CommunicationDigital technology and the ever-growing popularity of social media communication, are making language and letters commonplace; even expendable. The variety in style and the accessibilty of typefaces is now so vast that appreciating them individually, when we see them, is becoming harder and harder. Here I have amassed 250 different typefaces and applied them to the Facebook conversations I had in one week; each letter assuming the next typeface in the list. The final typeface is symbolic of a developing relationship with language through our computers. A language that is subsequently defined by the thousands of typefaces available in 2013, when once there were only a few dozen! ?The work shown is the result of my Extended Major Project, a four month brief that came at the end of my final year at University. I entitled it 'My Type of Communication.'
  • Creative Collective
Creative CollectiveThe work shown is the result of a colloboration project with two other graphic design students in my final year at University. The work produced answered a D&AD Student Awards brief, and aimed to reconnect It's Nice That with its student audience in new and exciting ways.? As well as needing to provide It’s Nice That with a way of reengaging with its former student audience, we believed there was the potential for much more useful and efficient communication between people with creative interest. The idea was to extend It’s Nice That’s public media platform and present contemporary design as it’s happening through the eyes of like-minded creatives; aiming to spark the interest of anyone from secondary school art students to design company directors. With this we would be able to showcase a range of events, exhibits, and work where website members will be able to follow the pulse of design and creativity in the UK. Scope for networking and collaboration would also be a substantial benefit of our interactive stream. By showcasing specific examples of excellence amongst submissions and uploads, It’s Nice That will reinforce its status as a brand of quality that promotes healthy competition and provides coveted design opportunities and recognition.
  • Swell Skates
Swell SkatesAn exciting personal project that combines unique design with a passion for skateboarding. ? As a young teenager I would spend hours on my skateboard. It helped me to socialise and was an exhilarating way of spending time outdoors. ? For a long time skateboarding had been completely pushed from my mind, until I spotted an old deck of mine in the garage nine months ago. I had it re-gripped, attached it to my old trucks and wheels and felt a connection with skating again. ? Skateboarding for me has changed hugely since I was twelve. I enjoy the freedom a lot more and skating to music; it's much more about escapism. As a 24 year old designer it has been hugely enjoyable producing my own designs for decks, clothing and the company brand. ? The Swell Skates© project was set up to combine the creative minds of designers, illustrators and photographers who share a passion for skateboarding. We design, print and sell a range of custom decks and clothing items.
