Working with both the central and local marketing teams I create and art direct any creative marketing that is required. I have created designs in-house for a range of outputs including packaging and marketing collateral. Having developed the brand guidelines myself, I have been able to liaise and build relationships with agencies to guide them through the brand identity when the work has been outsourced for large scale advertising campaigns or website development. I monitor and maintain the Kazam brand out in the market addressing any issues in quality that may arise. From the start, I have redirected the brand guidelines making sure that Kazam remains current but at the same time maintaining the fun irreverent feel of the brand that is so important for its development and success out in the market place.
Whilst still holding some responsibilities from my previous contract, my role at Amtico International progressed and I was now employed as an Artworker and Visual Designer within the design studio. This role utilizes my combined skill set for all things involved in the digital manipulation of artwork and product development of luxury vinyl flooring. Responsibilities include creating floor formats out of artwork and then manipulating the flats into room sets, which is a key aspect within product development at Amtico as it helps with gaining feedback on customer visits. I develop marketing material such as storyboards, by problem solving a way to tell the story of how a product was developed from concept through to product realization. I have been trained in specialized software, AVA CAD/CAM, and am responsible for separating bought and in-house artworks for coloration development purposes. I was largely involved in developing the first artwork that was created from scratch in house at Amtico. The outcome was a niche product, which received positive feedback and large interest by a vast amount of commercial customers. This was groundbreaking development for the company and has opened new doors within their design process.
At McCann Erickson I was able to look at how their designers worked on a brief from start to finish, which gave me good insight into the workings and structure of their design process, and where they stressed the importance of having good concepts and ideas before anything else. I was given a brief to redesign the packaging for the stationery company ‘5 Star,’ applying what I had learned from watching and talking to the other designers. I enjoyed working through the process, taking numerous ideas to create such a simple and effective piece, which impressed the creative director.
