About me

I am a freelance principal digital designer with 12 years’ experience in collaborating on large and complex digital products. Recently, I have focused on UX, user research, design and art direction, design management, mentoring and initiating collaborative workshops concerning atomic design principles and 'living' pattern libraries. I have worked with some top digital agencies, news organisations, start-ups, studio theatres, social enterprise companies, public transport providers and broadcasters in London, Toronto and Madrid. I also have experience in storyboarding, illustration, designing for print, and basic-to-intermediate sound and video editing. Ideally, I am looking for long-term contracts of three months or longer on a four-day work week with occasional remote working.

  • Working on the massive open online course (MOOC) platform founded in December 2012 as a company majority owned by the Open University. As of August 2017, it has 131 university partners and many non-university partners including the British Museum, the British Council, the British Library, the European Space Agency, the British Medical Journal (BMJ) and the National Film and Television School. As well as designing across both the product and marketing teams, we started the "living" pattern library using the atomic design methodology to construct and classify UI elements and patterns. The library directly reflects the FutureLearn platform and uses the same underlying CSS and markup to display the elements and rules that make up the interface.
