Despite its excellent waterproofing and binding properties, asphalt has a few downsides related to its chemical structure. It combines a mixture of complex chemicals with a degree of instauration within their structure. This gives salts, weather, and chemicals to attack its molecular structure and damage it over time. As the molecules begin to disintegrate, the pavement loses its properties.
