For me, it started with simply watching films. I remember spending Saturday mornings ploughing through films (usually that I was too young to be watching). A particular memory was a morning spent watching Stephen Daldry’s film version of The Hours by Michael Cunningham. The bridge Daldry created between the novel and the film was ingenious, and the way truncated stories were punctuated by the cinematography of the various time periods they set out to encapsulate was nothing short of masterful. This love affair with the silver screen continued well into my adolescence and early adulthood. I have subsequently used every chance to try and immerse myself in every facet of production: film, news and theatre. My initial work with the Ambassador Theatre Group was my first foray into theatre production. I was tasked with organising meetings between the head of fundraising and various investors looking to help with the expansion of the ATG brand into theatres in Greater London. This involvement led me to seeking further experience, but in film and television. Throughout my gap year internship at ITN productions I worked as a runner, researcher and assisted editing on a variety of projects. I was primarily involved with the pre-production and filming of Young Vets aired on BBC2 in 2014, as well as a researcher for ‘SNTV’ (a new online news channel aimed at engaging young adults and students) and Dispatches. As the youngest member of these production teams, working alongside factual feature veterans like Emma Read and Chris Shaw, this experience was daunting but fundamentally invaluable. I had to earn the respect of my seniors and prove myself as an able, efficient and passionate learner-and I succeeded. In the summer 2015 I was asked to join Emporium Productions (the newly formed documentary division of the Hat Trick Group) as a junior researcher and developer. I was also able to thoroughly immerse myself in the post-production department, becoming a fluent user of Final Cut Pro and Adobe Edit. At Emporium, my team and I were tasked with researching and subsequently predicting the public appetite for television. Working with test audiences, series producers, and television writers in order to gage exactly what the British public were interested in watching, and in which format. Whilst studying for my degree in English and Comparative Literature at King’s College London I have had the privilege of working as a freelance production assistant for the newly formed creative agency, Zoya Films. Working primarily on their campaigns for RAG and Unlease (https://vimeo.com/108392366). This opportunity has allowed me to incorporate the various spheres of production in which I have immersed myself, and apply them to the world of advertising and creative marketing, specifically for an online audience. In turn, this has been supplemented by setting up my own production company with two university friends: Sunscreen Productions Ltd (www.sunscreenproductions.com). This entrepreneurial enterprise has allowed me to continue my interests in production in different media, and has resulted in being named this year’s Nike ‘Creative Captain in Residence’ and personally winning a commission from Nike to develop and produce a series of short films for their Run+ clubs and their extensive work in the field of athletics.Locked Pro Plan feature
