About me
Hey, I’m Siân! I recently graduated from Falmouth University’s Illustration BA with First Class Honours. My focus is primarily on children’s narrative illustration, and I love using different colours and textures to create layered collage pieces. I create detailed pieces from paper, pencil and acrylic paint before layering the different elements digitally. I am very interested in how illustrated books may be used to help children make their way through life’s difficulties. My university book projects often dealt with the subjects of death, loss and difficult emotions. I can’t go a day without drawing, so you’ll usually find me with a sketchbook in my bag or a pencil in my hand!
Projects
  • The Journey to Zoe
The Journey to ZoeThe Journey to Zoe is a self authored and illustrated book dealing with sibling death, and the confusion and difficult feelings that the sibling left behind might feel. The main character goes on a magical dream journey, learning along the way that although it is valid and important to feel negative emotions talking about them to people can stop them from becoming overwhelming. This project was made by combining traditional collaged textures and papers with digital painting.
  • Suzy’s Big Colour Adventure
Suzy’s Big Colour AdventureSuzy’s Big Colour Adventure is a board book about the colours of the rainbow for very young audiences, complete with lift the flap elements. Suzy the sausage dog is searching for her rainbow ball, but it’s not under the Red Trees, it’s not in the Yellow Flowers, it’s not among the Green Grass... Under each flap is a new little animal that suits the environment of the page, or a green caterpillar to search for on every spread. This project was created by making many textures by hand in a variet
  • Wunderkammer
WunderkammerThis is my contribution to Falmouth University’s illustration graduate publication: Wunderkammer. I worked with the idea of the vast and curious imagination of children, where even something as simple as a cardboard box can hold endless possibility. This piece was created with handmade textures that include screen print and acrylic paint, before being put together digitally.
  • Baby Food Packaging
Baby Food PackagingBaby food packaging based around the idea of a colour changing chameleon. The chameleon character itself is a clear plastic window so that is can be used across many designs and flavours. This project was made by collaging traditional textures and papers digitally.
  • Lesbian Editorial
Lesbian EditorialEditorial project about the lasting dangers of being a lesbian in modern Britain. This project is entirely digitally painted.
  • Vegan Chocolate Packaging
Vegan Chocolate PackagingSpeculative packaging for Moo Free vegan chocolate. The concept was to use weird alien landscapes to describe unusual chocolate flavours. This project is fully digitally painted, apart from the use of a couple of paper textures.
