In addition to his core production design role; in recent years Simon has diversified his output
to include creative direction and live event production to his design expertise.
Simon regularly works directly with CEOs and CFOs of corporations such as Heineken to
make large-scale spectacular and memorable narrative-based events. This means he is expert at
bringing large projects in on-budget, keeping a creative mind-set utmost whilst working within
strict time and budget parameters, and speaking to the horse’s mouth when it comes to
decision-making.
It means Simon can pull together a team on both the micro and macro level and keep a
narrative design theme running through parallel events and sequences of deadlines.
This additional knowledge augments his already proven experience in production design – 30
years in the business of set design.
Simon was appointed an associate for Counterculture LLP in July 2020. Counterculture helps
cultural, educational and creative organisations to plan, manage and thrive: working for
businesses, not-for-profits, public bodies, clubs and individuals – locally, nationally and
internationally. He is also creative director for The Manual London – live event producers of
large-scale music productions. Simon makes his experience available to help community
groups and local events and initiatives.
Simon designed the studio set for the BBC’s coverage of the 2012 Olympics and BBC Sports
