About me
Fascinated by aesthetics and the human imagination, Simone Smelt combines dark and endless imaginative concepts with minimal aestetics. Simone Smelt recently graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, her two graduation projects "speculum" and "30x30" will be presented at the upcoming Dutch Design Week this October. Simone Smelt often creates a poetic visual concept followed up by playing with materials and colors to unveil the concept and create a fitting feeling. Focussing on dynamic and transformable objects to create a sustainable solution to boredom; dynamic design can be an ever surprising journey.

  • SHATTERED
SHATTEREDLilith (Hebrew: לית ִלי ִLîlîṯ) is a figure in Jewish mythology, developed earliest in the Babylonian Talmud (3rd to 5th centuries). Lilith appears as Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same dirt as Adam. Lilith left Adam after she refused to become subservient to him and then would not return to the Garden of Eden after she had coupled with the archangel Samael. Lilith is often envisioned as a dangerous demon of the night, who is sexually wanton. Inspired by L
  • SPECULUM
SPECULUMSPECULUM Sometimes we feel the need for space – do we really need it? Or is a spatial feeling enough to ease our mind? ‘Speculum’ creates the illusion of space. Soft tone mirrors play with light and dimension, creating a mesmerizing tunnel of light that triggers the imagination. Touch the mirror and the wormhole opens up, touch it again and the tunnel changes its course. Feel like Alice in Wonderland and allow yourself to take a leap into this parallel poetic world. Maybe you’ll find the white rabbit...
  • 30X30 Copper
30X30 Copper30 X 30 30 X 30 Concrete pavement tiles are the most used public product in the Netherlands, they are often considered cheap and ugly. As a way of elevating the aesthetics of public space and architecture. Simone Smelt created a set of copper and steel sleeves for the most used tile in the Netherlands. Both copper and steel share the beautiful quality of changing its colors over the years. This color functions as a layer of protection, which makes the material both very sustainable and durable. Throughout a time of 20 years, copper changes its color from copper, to brown, to black, and eventually to green or blue, depending on the climate it is exposed to. An additional coating of epoxy protects certain parts of the copper and steel against external influences and through time a pattern on the sleeve emerges. As a simple, yet effective, way to add an enchanting touch to something common. Elevating something ordinary into something magical.
  • ENEQUIST
ENEQUISTENEQUIST is a half Dutch, half Swedish electronic artist from the Netherlands who moved to the German capital to immerse himself into what inspires him most: The sound of a city whose nocturnal rhythms seem never-ending.  Fitting to his dark and innovative sound, Simone Smelt created a minimalistic and ambiguous art cover,  a teaser video, and fitting photography
