Overview: There is a growing concern over the commercial sustainability of artist management in the modern music industry, which prompted the debate over the relevance of the traditional 20% commission model. This dissertation explored and proposed an alternative hybrid business model and discovered that there is no single overarching equation for the most effective use of an artist manager's time but that a series of equations can be produced. These equations can be adopted in music management practice and programmed into digital software for time-saving and organisation. In addition, a framework for creating a balanced roster of artists was developed by applying the BCG matrix to improve artist management practice further.
