About me
Sonia Bhamra is a multi-disciplined artist and photographer from Birmingham, U.K. She graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree from Birmingham City University. She uses photography and mixed media to create visual metaphors to address concepts surrounding social, cultural and environmental issues. Her inspiration stems from contemporary situations which she further explores, creating new ways to view the world and inviting the viewer to look at the world as it is but from another point of view.   “For me photography is a means of communication, curiosity and connection. The genre of photography is determined by the subject matter, I don’t just want to take the image, I want to make the image” Sonia’s commitment to the craft of image making brings together different processes that create emotional connections and evoke experiences, which resonate with each viewer. A Surreal LandscapeI am exploring the terrain of the subconscious mind, through a series of surreal landscapes. Surrealism was about finding the bridge between the subconscious and the reality. With our imagination, we can do better than merely adapting to a new environment. We can create a new environment for ourselves by tapping into our subconscious mind, which will then reflect in our outer world. The landscapes depict elusive imagery of dreams, radical transformations and fantasy; breaking free from the condi

The Goddess Maya means illusion, that which is temporary and is the one who blinds everything in illusion, but at the same time, she’s the one who shows the truth. She’s the source of al

The gap between what is imagined and what is seenHow people form mental images vary and the difference between the minds eye and the image it sees. One may imagine a scene with such vividness and another may imagine just an outline.

Rankin x The Drum (The Truth Issue) - Can You Handle It?Please accept this leter as my official resignation as guest editor of The Drum. When I came up with the theme for this issue, my first concept was to get a lie detector test, and see who we could get to take it. At that time Boris Johnson was top of the list, neatly followed by Jeremy Corbyn - both spectactular purveyours of mendacity. But then the Jeremy Kyle scandal hit and well... I shelved that. 'Learn from others' mistakes, should that be the lesson? Well no, the problem is that there are
