About me
In my previous life I was a librarian and archivist. A month spent in Afghanistan in 2008 working on Aina’s digital photography archive convinced me I wanted to work in photography and with photographers, which I have done ever since.
I am an experienced creative producer/project manager and photo editor with 10 years experience working in the photography industry. As Education Manager for Magnum Photos, I am responsible for the programming and managing of Magnum’s educational activities, including developing and producing photography workshops, masterclasses and the Magnum x London College of Communication Intensive Documentary Photography course.
Prior to that, I worked at Panos Pictures in London and NOOR in Amsterdam, as commissioning editor, photo editor and project manager, working for magazines (TIME, The Guardian, Le Monde), NGOs (Oxfam, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch), agencies (Ogilvy, Animl) and institutions.

- Creativity Works: Visual Storytelling with Magnum Photos: The Fluid StateThe short film, Fluid State, focuses on Heather B from INC MGMT, an “inclusive agency with a focus on representing POC & LGBTQIA+ identifying people.” This is one part of a broader, long-term project examining understandings of fluidity within London’s LGBTQ+ community. Through interviews with various participants, FIlip is exploring the meaning of fluidity and sharing multiple perspectives on the queer community, whether within a literal/non literal sense or through creating a metaphor from it
- The Face of The People that Need YOU!Delivered in a course by Create Jobs and Magnum Photos a brief was set by ItsNiceThat of 'What is your London?' The Face Of The People That Need YOU! is a portrayal of characters from Walthamstow Market, the heart and soul of my home. Growing up around shop-keepers and market traders from a young age i have witnessed generations come and go. With my personal connection to the community I can ask sensitive questions and gain honest insights, especially with a political issue like Brexit I can e
- Creativity Works - Visual Storytelling with Magnum PhotosThe centrepiece is me holding up a childhood photo against what would have been my estate, before it got knocked down. Growing up, there was always conversations about finding a place to stay, people were always talking about looking for homes, and moving away into the abstract. Fortunately, when we had to move, we had it better than others and were able stay in Tower Hamlets (East London). Staying allowed me to witness the night and day change that occurred, for better or worse. I see people
- SophSoph is the first chapter of an ongoing project looking at the issues of mental health and loneliness experienced by individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. Those who identify as LGBTQ+ tend to be at a higher risk of issues with their mental health, although despite this, it still remains a topic that is rarely discussed beyond facts and figures. The project looks at individuals in the context of the bedroom. These often solitary spaces can be places of safety and freedom, but also ones in which t
- Creativity Works - Visual Storytelling with Magnum PhotosThis work was produced during a 6-week intensive photography course with Create Jobs and Magnum Photos. Photographs were produced in fulfilment of a brief set by It's Nice That. The brief asked course participants to take photographs which portrayed what London was to them. Under the guidance of Magnum associate Sohrab Hura, a body of work was developed for display in an exhibition and to be printed in a zine. In the series i wanted to tell the story of London's 2019 youth culture through our
- Creativity Works: Visual Storytelling with MagnumphotosROLE MODELS Originally from North West London Kevin Chemuka’s recent move to East London has opened his eyes to the diverse friendship groups surrounding him. What lessons are your friendships teaching you? Are they good or bad? Chemuka believes that we are the products of our environment and the sum of the five people closest to us. Through this work, he seeks to encourage these observations as a conversation between young men. As he gets older, Chemuka has begun to observe and appreciate t
