In my previous life I was a librarian and archivist. A month spent in Afghanistan in 2008 working on Aina’s digital photography archive convinced me I wanted to work in photography and with photographers, which I have done ever since. I am an experienced creative producer/project manager and photo editor with 10 years experience working in the photography industry. As Education Manager for Magnum Photos, I am responsible for the programming and managing of Magnum’s educational activities, including developing and producing photography workshops, masterclasses and the Magnum x London College of Communication Intensive Documentary Photography course. Prior to that, I worked at Panos Pictures in London and NOOR in Amsterdam, as commissioning editor, photo editor and project manager, working for magazines (TIME, The Guardian, Le Monde), NGOs (Oxfam, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch), agencies (Ogilvy, Animl) and institutions.
I am responsible for the programming and managing of Magnum’s educational activities, including photographic workshops, masterclasses, portfolio reviews, professional development events, symposiums, courses and awards. Responsibilities: - Develop and manage the annual program of Magnum education events in the assigned territories - Budget management - Create and distribute event communications including web listings, press kits, course materials, etc - Partner liaison - Photographer liaison - On-site facilitation of Magnum events - Work alongside Global Education Manager in strategizing and implementing the department vision
- Commissioning Editor: responsible for the day to day selection of photographers for assignments globally through to the final delivery of photography to the client. In 2017 only, I produced more than 150 shoots in 51 countries Role & responsibilities: * Negotiate contracts and fees * Brief photographers for assignments * Meeting with clients * Informing clients of photographers’ plans and whereabouts * Keep abreast of new and emerging talent * Emergency response. Coordinating agency’s response when photographers find themselves in difficulties. - Project Manager & Producer: oversee the realisation of projects from creating new content to producing exhibitions, books and websites. Develop the creative approach with clients, manage budgets and sub-contractors, in charge of communication and marketing.
. Sales: support the director of sales, actively market and sell projects and stories, keep clients updated of whereabouts. Negotiate contracts and fees, invoice, follow-up with payments. . Assistant project manager: assist the managing director in the production of projects and group projects, from budgeting and finding partners all the way to completion (outdoor exhibitions, publication, marketing and communication). . Support to photographers: provide accurate and fast support to the photographers, anticipate their needs, assure the liaison between them and the clients. . Communication: editorial manager of the monthly and weekly newsletters, oversee the content of social media (Facebook, Twitter, blog) and the update of the website. . Archiving: manager of the online picture library and internal archiving
