I believe there are ways to create, to innovate and to wow consumers responsibly and enjoy discovering new ways this can be achieved. Sustainability is not a buzzword, it’s a necessity. My day-to-day tasks include managing consumer marketing which is currently all online. I create online campaign and CRM strategies based on regular data management and produce the marketing outputs developed from this e-commerce research, such as weekly email newsletters, social media posts/advertisements, online ads and consumer PR. I also project manage Trade Show Exhibitions, Consumer Events and ad-hoc wholesale marketing solutions + photo shoots. I believe that the experience of working for a small company making big strides in the industry has taught me to balance creativity alongside a strategic and commercial mindset.
I managed the set up of the Fashion & Textile Management Degree Show room from conception to implementation, exercising creativity, organisation, budget management, and most importantly, effective and diplomatic communication skills between a wide range of academics, technicians, external companies and a student committee team.
I was given a 5 week placement within Millican HQ to work on an individual project, as well as to help with the day to day admin of the office environment during a very busy period, this was anything from helping to create the physical trade show stand itself, as well as taking orders and answering consumer queries. This diversity of learning is what I love about working for a smaller company. I also was asked to write a couple of blog entries for the website which you can find at homeofmillican.com. My individual project was to create a marketing strategy in order to help grow the trade side of the business in the UK with the aim to expand to Europe in the future. I created creative solutions alongside a practical, cost effective strategy which was completely tailored to Millican's needs as a small business (5 employers within HQ). I then presented my report and suggestions to the company at the end of my 5 week period which resulted in very positive feedback and interest in executing a majority of my proposals.
My responsibilities included: - Assisting with the Visual Merchandising of the Wrangler HQ showroom and communicating this work to the Country Marketing Managers - Liaising regularly with Country Marketing Managers across the EU, ensuring all are up to date with marketing material and supporting them with retail projects. - Assisting Retail & Trade Marketing Managers with: - Prep for marketing material photo-shoots - Production of wholesale marketing materials (Sell-In Tools) and in-store features (Free Standing Units, Point-Of-Sale material), so communicating regularly and efficiently with suppliers as well as managing budgets - General Administration: collecting invoices, organising the collections, planning market visits My day-to-day tasks changed regularly alongside the fast-evolving retail industry and so it was important for me to remain level-headed in busy periods and to effectively manage my time. Working for Wrangler taught me the importance of consistent brand image and how to communicate this throughout all aspects of a retail environment.
I was responsible for running the office for the Critical Waste recycling crew in the lead-up to and during Bestival 2012 and Glastonbury 2014. I organised all the on-site administration for both paid crew and volunteers; this included organising shift times, collating pay information, corresponding with Loud Sound Production, and offering help and advice where necessary. This took place in an extremely fast-paced and demanding environment and involved working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. My role demanded strong leadership qualities; the use of tact and diplomacy, and using my own initiative was imperative.
