    Transition Mentor
     - London, United KingdomFreelance
The position of paid transition mentor is held within the Department of History of Art at University College London, whereby the mentor helps first year students with the challenges of adapting to university. The position required having a strong academic record and good communication skills. In this role, I was responsible for mentoring a group of 15 first year students, and helping them with the academic concerns and, when appropriate, more personal concerns, such as moving to London. This often required proof-reading essays, giving guidance on how best to approach assignments and being generally supportive. I had to hold meetings once a week, planning and conducting the sessions on my own and often to the whole group, as well as one-on-one sometimes. I believe this demonstrates my ability to take control of a situation, lead a group of people effectively and generate discussion among other people.
    Student Ambassador
     - London, United KingdomFreelance
The position of paid student ambassador for UCL's Philanthropic campaign involved calling graduates in order to fundraise for the university's bursary scheme and world-leading dementia research. This was a demanding job, requiring an excellent telephone manner and both the abilities to follow a script and improvise. This also required working as part of a large team to reach targets, where high morale was encouraged and valued. At times, graduates could react badly to phone calls from the university, and so persuasion, excellent communication skills and a friendly, engaging personality were intrinsic to success in this role. Over this period, I learned how best to engage with a wide range of people and varied responses. I believe people skills are key in all walks of life, and this job really helped develop mine.
