About me
I am an artist and photographer currently based in Edinburgh Scotland where I have recently completed my MFA in Contemporary Art Practice at Edinburgh College of Art. I graduated from Falmouth University with a First Class Honours degree in Photography where I furthered my art practice. Throughout the process of developing my practice, I have also acquired numerous skills in the commercial market that I further honed with work experience at Big Sky Studios and Latitude Stock on the Picture Desk. I currently act on the committee of a curatorial artist-run collective in Edinburgh called Bargain Spot and keep a studio at Rhubaba Studios and Gallery.

  • Anything That Is Visible
Anything That Is Visible“Anything That Is Visible” is collaborative piece of work constructed by artists Kirsty Macleod, Malcolm O’Connell and myself for our MA/MFA Curatorial Project Space brief. Instructed to use a small empty space located in ECA to stage a show we, as a group, decided to create a brand new body of work to utilise the space and bring our highly differing working practices together into a cohesive body of work. A ladder constructed of oak and copper stood offset and lit in the middle of the room. Unusable and decorative yet a mimicry of a functional object, the sculpture lead to nothing but an invisible fictional object of which the ladder was all that remained. As the ladder is dead as an object of function and merely a prop of desire the only interaction with the subject matter in a tangible sense is the accompanying iPad app. Acting as a parable for the object in stasis the app explains and obscures the nature of the ladder. Both collaborating artists are cracking in their own right so give them a good look also.
  • PAPKA
PAPKA“PAPKA” is a constructed photography magazine documenting how we see and consume art. Think about it, we always consume images depending on how they’re dictated to us. Image’s don’t sit on a conveyor belt for us to pick out. Instead we exist at the centre of a storm where images are thrown towards us by the winds of dictation from varying directions. I created a contemporary photography magazine filled with fictional personas and the images that they create. Does it matters that our art is simulated from an endlessly radiating synthesis of art. If or when we find out that the artists inside are fictional, does it change our reactions to the work as art regardless? The magazine was produced in a print run and has been exhibited in both a physical and digital fashion regularly. The magazine is available for iPad free on the App Store.

Work history
    Committee Member
     - Full Time
My role began as lead curator on an open call exhibition entitled PROTAGONISTS. The role included drafting the open call to respond to the specific intention of the exhibition, advertising the call out, selecting appropriate proposals for consideration, liaising with selected practitioners on delivery and handling of the artwork, curating the show and appropriate de-install of the work involved. I also lead the producing of appropriate information material and gallery publicity. Responsibilities extended as a supporting curator to other shows by contributing committee members and curators. My role extended here to general upkeep of the showing space, preparation of appropriate showing conditions and aiding in funding proposals from Creative Scotland. My role also involved considerable education aspects including running an Exhibition Design Workshop at the Scottish Gallery of Modern art in conjunction with British Art Show 8 and chairing the student symposium for the same event. My decision to seek further employment is in engagement to further develop and utilise my skills within a wider net towards the historical and contemporary art worlds. The desire for working within a professional context also acted as a factor.
