his position involves assisting with the development, planning and execution of an inclusive hospitality schedule including non-sponsored gala dinners and events, regular large dinner parties, large venue-based hospitality and bespoke receptions for visiting international and British Filmmakers in addition to high level film talent. Also, a full programme of live events must be arranged throughout the festival. This was all contained within a pop-up festival venue.
The role involved the diary management, bookings and sales of the newly refurbished events spaces situated within a large capacity city Guildhall. This also included the delivery of in-house events throughout a calendar year including conferences, live entertainment / parties, networking events, exhibitions, markets and trade fairs. The position requires working with catering and logistics companies on a daily basis and developing new B2B relationships. Extensive budget management and staffing of large-scale events is essential to the position.
The position requires maintaining the smooth day-to-day running of the venue as the ‘live-in’ venue manager along with the safety and security of the venue and all customers / staff. This is assisted by firm enforcement of risk assessments and Health & Safety policies. Promoting the venue as a bar and as a music venue is important, in addition to motivating staff to hit carefully chosen targets on a daily basis & enabling staff member to reach their full potential as representatives of the venue. This goes hand-in-hand with effective delegation of tasks to staff members. The venue manager is responsible for all the ordering and processing of stock deliveries and the banking / processing / documenting of all cash connected with the venue. The deciding of pricing structures throughout a multi-faceted business is core to this job.
The position involved full responsibility for, and smooth running of, all live events and managing the live events team (Promoters, sound engineers, box office staff and security) on a day to day basis. It also entailed taking venue hire bookings and answering customer enquiries over the phone and via email. A strong booking policy was developed via a rigid budgeting framework and creative marketing of the venue via many routes including local press, the creation and maintenance of an extremely successful website and mailing list, and through social media including Facebook and Twitter.
This included taking full responsibility of opening and closing the pub/venue and full responsibility for all staff working on the same shifts. Total management of the cellar and taking charge of stock rotations and regular stock takes. The role also required ensuring that the venue was kept constantly clean and tidy, that drinks were served to customers in a quick and efficient manner and informing customers of upcoming shows, plus selling them tickets for such shows. The manager also must take care of staff performance, band hospitality and the cashing up of tills at the end of the night.
