About me
When I started working as a graphic designer in an advertisement agency in Germany 15 years ago, I never thought it would lead me to be a Creative Director on the other side of the world.
But my interest in music and motion design inspired me to take on the position of TV designer at VIVA music television. It also gave me the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects like producing show packages, IDs , trailers & on air graphics that included managing a major Rebrand in 2004.
When Viacom International took over VIVA in 2005 I was offered a role at MTV Central in Berlin as on-air promo producer where I developed more of my storytelling and script writing skills while directing and producing large scale shoots at that time.
By early 2006 I decided to gain some work experience abroad and dreaming of sunny weather and surfing made Australia my first choice. Little did I know that after a few months freelancing I would be working as a Senior Promo Producer at MTV Australia again.
I progressed to become On Air Promotions Manager in 2008 and subsequently Creative Director in 2009, which made me solely responsible for the on-air, off-air and online design, as well as promotion and brand management for all Australian MTV & Comedy Central New Zealand channels. In that role I have delivered 3 award winning redesigns, numerous digital design projects, marketing campaigns and 2 channel launch brand campaigns for MTV Hits & MTV Classic. I also oversaw & initiated various client integration projects together with the sales team at Viacom.
At the end of 2013, I decided to leave my post and refocus my career. I worked as a Freelance Creative Director on branding, advertisement, content marketing and digital projects for a number of clients across Australia until October 2014. Since then I work for Foxtel, currently as Group Creative Director Factual Channels.
Projects
- MTV RebrandThe brief was to create a new on air identity, relevant to an Australian audience, clear in communication and accommodating all programing and promotional needs. The Idents, the main element used in different variations such as menus and break bumpers were based on the MTV logo entering an empty and silent scene filling it with music consisting of environmental sounds. After it’s initial launch in Australia, the Rebrand has won the acclaim of many critics, notably winning a staggering 8 Awards
- Optus 180 ProjectThe Optus One 80 project is a joint venture between MTV and Optus aiming to unearth new talent in film and media production. In the fifth year running we decided to give the brand a complete makeover, including a brand new on air campaign & redesigned graphic package for On- and Off- Air. As the campaign stretches over 3 phases within of 8 months, we had to come up with highly versatile assets and compelling creative which would not get tiresome.
- MTV StationarySince MTV's brandmark changed over the past 2 years, the former Stationery had to undergo a Redesign. Together with the creative studio Motherbird from Melbourne, we took the opportunity to simplify the overall look and give the staff the chance to personalize their cards. They were tasked to photocopy themselves, choose a quote and send those back to the designer in order to be used for their business card backs. The handwritten type, the fluoro colour and the choice of paper added to the upbeat but yet simplistic look & feel.
