About me
Tania was born and educated in Spain. In 2009 she decided to move to London to develop her artistic skills.  She started doing drawing and design courses and in 2011 was accepted in Middlesex University to study BA Fashion Design. She realized after graduation that fashion is too delimited for her and started the MA Costume Design for Performance at London Collage of Fashion to explore better her 3D making skills and expand her perspective. Tania is passionate about Art and enjoys designing for all its disciplines. In theater and performance she finds her way to express herself. Her style is very much defined by 3D construction, Science and Art linked together through research and very detail embellishment.
Projects
  • Faustus
FaustusDoctor Faustus is the Opera Prima of Christopher Marlow, written at the end of XVI century. He was killed just few years after he wrote it, possibly because of the high content of blasphemy and political and social critique that the play had (for the time). Initially, I focused my research on this concept of revulsion, provocation and grotesque. The theory of Hell and Earth as one connected by suffering and the third law of the dynamic (cause-consequence), every action has a following reaction,
  • The Vist
The VistThe Visit was premiered in Zurich in 1956 and immediately won an immense popularity. It is a "tragic comedy" inspired by the post-war Europe, (especially Switzerland) and clearly exposes the corruption of justice by wealth. The play very cleverly weaves between Greek tragedy and German Expressionism testing the limits of human being moral values. I got inspired by Frida Khalo and her work. That images directed me to do some further research about anatomic hearts and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) blood cells pictures to connect with the 3D textile design I wanted to do.  I also found interesting to connect the “Catrina”, the Mexican symbol of death, with Claire, the main character of the play. They both represent a  grotesque caricature of the bourgeoisie class.
  • The Princess of the Moon
The Princess of the MoonThis performance is inspired by the traditional Japanese folk tale “The Bamboo Cutter”, an iconic tale from X century Japan. The story describes an old man who finds a small girl, the size of a hand, inside a bamboo stalk. She turns out to be a princess and a divine figure that comes to this world to experience all humans emotions. It so happens that melancholy and depression dominate her adulthood. This performance is not only a story of a sad princess, but an exploration of the emotional disconnection that humans could experience when are ejected from their context and environment in this case referring to the events of Japan at the end of WWII and the emergence of the Post War Avant-Garde art movement in Japan. https://youtu.be/O4-Hs7jKEos
