I was lucky enough to do a short placement at Ruffer LLP getting to grips with active fund management. Ruffer look after investments for private clients and institutions, as well as managing several funds. During my time there I was taught the basics of how to rate stocks, look after clients and basic administration on individual funds and clients. Areas I focussed on included the commodities and Forex markets, and spent time on both the ‘front desk’ and the trading floor.

I spent my time managing their impressive roster of clients that range from TV personalities to sportsmen and women. My day to day tasks included taking minutes at creative meetings, dealing with clients directly to ensure that the services provided were tailored to their needs, and drafting pitches and powerpoints. I spent half of my time on the ‘brands’ desk, where I was able to pick up first-hand insight into how JGM successfully merge brands with their clients.
