In late July 2014 I worked as location support on the set of Star Wars Episode VII. During this time I worked closely with both 1st and 2nd assistant directors and assisted a range of departments from Camera, to Grips. My principal duties included; surveying and plotting safe trails for the cast and crew to arrive on set, escorting crew members to the set, ensuring all pathways were locked off during takes, general crowd control, liaison between location support team and 1st AD, ensuring refreshments were on hand for cast and crew at all times. Due to the enormous scale of the project, this role required a high level of responsibility and initiative and required me to carry out duties in a highly professional manner at all times. This was my first outing on a project of this scale however I found that my skills developed through university and from working with Electric Eye provided me with a great jumping off point, allowing me to integrate well and work as part of a highly efficient production unit.
Electric Eye Film was a personal project I started in late 2013. As an independent film and media company, we focused on delivering tight, professional grade promotional videos on very limited budgets, offering a full range of film and media services from music videos and promotional websites, to wedding photography. As a freelance filmmaker, I’ve worked across a wide range of technical based roles, from Sound production, to work as a freelance cinematographer however I found my skill set was best suited to a role as a producer/assistant director. I believe my Clear, logical approach to problem solving combined with strong inter-personal skills and a love for the visual arts makes me a strong asset to any project. I have previously worked in a freelance capacity under companies such as Red Bull, Barclays, Cobbett’s, Grant Thornton and many more, as well as providing film and media packages for clients such as former World Super Featherweight boxing champion Charles 'The Bull' Shepherd. I worked passionately to put together the projects we worked on during this time and loved every minute of the process, despite the long hours and little pay. I hope to take what I’ve learned from this little venture and use it to advance my career in media production.
