Whilst studying I worked for a store as store supervisor to support myself and my studies. This role helped improve my delegation skills, customer service and care and also gave experience working within a large company. Keeping on top of the running of the store, stock and deliveries were part of this, doing the stores banking, booking in and AD HOC as well as supporting the manager on tasks within the store and performance from staff. This involved up sales, offers and keeping the store and staff on top of targets.
As studio Designer my main duties where to keep on top of customer designs, running the small design department I was constantly in contact with the client. it was my role to meet and discuss their requirements, take a bespoke brief for the design job and then design their piece for them, emailing and contacting them with updates and arranging when the design was to be complete. I was also taking enquires in person, over the phone and emails. front of house, admin and reception tasks were also involved in the role, staying on top of appointments, booking new clients in, general upkeep, ordering and taking money were also some of the tasks I took on. This was an incredibly fast paced and varied role and I learnt many skills from.
Working in a studio as well as printing studios has given me experience in print practices and digital printing, a good knowledge of tools and equipment, has been crucial to me developing a methodical and precise approach to detailing and process. During my studies I helped to curate two exhibitions in which i took part in, Also taking Part in fund raising events selling art work. Working in a Communal studio with other practitioners was great and gave me experience in communicating and negotiation, regular feedback and critiques with peers and others helped to challenge my practice and question my work and methods which I find extremely important to stay open to possibilities and improve.
