A theatre festival started by the Battersea Arts Centre. Starting originally as a volunteer I am now a member of the team as an associate producer, and I help to assist with copy and images, creating leaflets and brochures, the writing of mail outs, and as lead contact to all participating artists within the festival programme. I am involved in approaching artists and theatre companies who we believe will be an exciting part of our festival programme, and I have taken a lead on negotiating fees and writing contracts.
I joined Sharon Clark, Literary Producer at the Bristol Old Vic, for the theatres annual open submission window for two months. The role involved reading scripts sent in by writers and completing script reports critiquing their work. I am now a reader for the theatre, and have since become a reader for the Tobacco Factory Theatre, for their yearly submission window, and I am also a regular reader for Working Title Films. These roles are highly editorial, and particularly working title, require commercially minded reports, that can be used for selecting potential scripts. For Working Title I also read novels, identifying books that could work as adaptations.
I assisted with the festival, liaising with speakers, organising travel arrangements, and ensuring venues were ready. This required impeccable interpersonal skills. I was a team member involved in the delicate balance of creating a programme of work for the festival and was involved, again, with liaising with publishers to ensure we had photos of speakers, for brochures; and I also wrote copy that needed to be agreed with publishers in order to sell the event.
