I am Tommaso Russo, I've been studying Arts, Music, and Entertainment (DAMS) at Padova University, Industrial Design at IUAV and Communication Design at Central Saint Martins College, London.
I've been Radar Festival's Creative Director for a couple of years before everything went bananas, and before I've been jumping from a design studio to another for a while.
I can't find a right word to define what I do. Probably I should just write "communication designer", but it doesn't sound right, so let's just say I am a spoiled child who did – at least once – each of the following things:
art direction, creative direction, communication design, film-making, curation, music production, radio production, sound design, film and tv production, UX, web design, film scoring, video editing, event planning, and (sic) graphic design.
I am currently employed as a teaching assistant at Central Saint Martins College in London for the communication design department.
Projects
- Bergen — GirlBergen released a new EP in January 2016, and asked Sara Ortolani and I to come up with a video for the rst single, “Girl”, giving us nothing more than a moodboard. For no apparent reason, we binged on videos with people pouring food colour into milk bowls and Sara suggested trying that out. On a Saturday, having kidnapped her atmate who works in lm production, Sara ended up with an excess of high quality footage of black liquids mixing with white blobs. I was then given the entire footage
- Design Bingo, Design NothingAs a natural follow up to my academic research, I have been asked to write and conduct a short experimental workshop built around topics of procedural design, design theory and theory of creative processes for MA GCD Course in Central Saint Martins College of Arts. The outcome was an indeterminacy-based activity aimed to help students to maintain a practice-led approach during the more theoretical steps of the MA program. D̶e̶s̶i̶g̶n̶ ̶B̶i̶n̶g̶o̶, Design Nothing is again based on David Byrne’s concept of Emergent Storytelling, Brian Eno’s ‘Oblique Strategies’ and other examples of procedural design conceived within the the areas of indeterminism, aleatoricism, surrealism and generative art. It took place in May 2017 and will be part of the MA GCD Y1 program again next Spring Term (2018). credits: written and conducted by Tommaso Russo, supervision Lu Vormittag
- LEVLEV is concept band and the main outcome is an EP in which the songs have been heavily affected by the making of its visuals, and viceversa, in the attempt of pursuing some sort of Wagnerian Total Artwork in which performance, music production, promotion a representation are created simultaneously under the same art direction. links: website: http://lev-official.com/ facebook: facebook.com/lev.something.official instagram: @lev.something apple music: http://apple.co/2xAWxkn spotify: http://spo
