Hi, I’m Toni - a UX Designer and freelance illustrator. As an empathetic designer, I am committed to designing with our emotions, senses and fundamental human needs in mind. By applying principles of psychology and anthropology to my work, I aim to create intuitive and human-friendly experiences.
My favourite projects address multi-sensory experiences, behavioural design, biomimicry, digital anthropology, consumer psychology, experiential design, symbolism and colour theory.
Projects
- Uber Brand Extension ProjectProject Brief: Design and develop an innovative, complementary product for Uber. Consideration of new consumer behaviours, potential markets and brand impact is essential. I chose to develop a product to ensure safe travel home at night, especially in areas where Uber is inaccessible.
- Anok Yai WallpaperI decided to do a much quicker portrait with model Anok Yai as my muse. I was more carefree with this illustration, going straight in with marker pen rather than starting with a pencil outline. Although it's not as uniform as my first illustration, I really liked the 'rough' aesthetic and went on to make it into wallpaper using snapchat editing tools and photoshop.
- Finding my Style - IllustrationLately I've been trying to develop a signature illustration style. So far it involves a vibrant colour palette and a lot of highlighting and contouring. I've never been the best at blending - probably because of impatience - so in this illustration I didn't bother blending colours on the face at all. With all the sections this created on the face, it led to a 'colour-by-numbers' type of look. This made it a lot easier to fill in the highlights and contours of the subject's face. The white highli

UX/UI DesignerThe Ubuntu Network
United KingdomPart Time
The Ubuntu Network is an online platform that helps to connect international students across the UK while providing them with the information, guidance and advice they need to effectively navigate the UK Job market. It came into existence after the founder, who is an international student himself, realised the difficulties of getting of finding and getting a job in the UK. I joined the team on April 26th 2020 as the Brand designer and UX/UI Designer of the new app. This was already a remote role, but because of Covid-19 this became a permanently remote role.
The team consists of myself, Ayokunle Arikawe (Founder/Project Manager), Randy Quaye (Lead Developer) and Nema Lwanda (Social Media Manager). We have weekly meetings on Microsoft Teams. During the week we worked either individually or collaboratively, depending on the stage of the app/website design.
I have had an interest in UX/UI since around 2018 and this was my first proper app design that I was delighted to see come to fruition. I am also proud of the brand identity that I curated for The Ubuntu Network with a refreshed logo and colour palette. Although there were many challenges along the way, I have honestly enjoyed every minute of it. From learning some coding basics to becoming close friends with my team members and helping to organise our first virtual event in the form of an app launch, this is a valuable experience. I have been with the team for over a year now and continue to contribute to the tasks at hand during final year. We soon hope to release a second version of the app with more features. The app is currently available for both Android and iOS users.
