About me
I’ve been writing copy for major global brands for 26 years. Specialising in branding and tone of voice, I tell agencies and businesses how to talk and show them how to write.
I learnt the real beauty of copywriting at The Body Shop. Left for Virgin Media, then switched to Sky. Went around the world with Expedia before my love of TV took me back to Sky – I’ve been their lead TOV Consultant for 12 years, working on all the big brand stuff like the launches of Sky Atlantic, Sky Store, Sky Studios, Sky Q and NOW TV.
Last year, I had a brilliant time working on the launch of ITVX and FIFA+. I'm now working with STV and IMAX, and I’ve been out in Europe doing copy workshops with Adidas and Pandora. Other recent clients include Spotify, Harper Collins, Sony Music and Twitter.
I co-created the new 42 Courses copywriting course with Steve Harrison: https://www.42courses.com/courses/copywriting. I’m a D&AD masterclass trainer, I run bespoke copy and TOV sessions, and I speak at industry events – most recently: Zee Melt in Mumbai, AIGA in USA, SEMPL in Slovenia and IMARK in Reykjavik.
I'm @VikkiRossWrites on Twitter where I created #CopywritersUnite and @copynights to connect copywriters. I also created #CopySafari to give brands and agencies a new way to learn. It's a walk around town looking at words in the wild because it’s one thing to look at work on screen, but it’s another to consider it as consumers do.
In 2016, Andy Maslen and I created Copy Cabana and Copy Capital – the industry’s biggest event dedicated to copy. For three years, we welcomed leaders and legends to entertain and educate a sell-out audience of 200 copywriters and copy lovers. In 2017, Creative Equals named me one of their Top 30 Female Creative Leaders. In 2019, Women in Marketing gave me a Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to Marketing (Agency). In 2020, The Dots named me one of their Top 100 Trailblazers redefining the creative industry.
