About me
Dr Vladimir Stolyarenko has had an extensive career in finance, corporate transformations, negotiations and administrations across a variety of industries, including financial services, energy, and media. He is known for the successful execution of multiple complex business turnarounds and is a specialist in anti-crisis management, as well as mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he has extensive hands-on and academic experience in the fields of finance and law.
During a successful career, which has spanned more than three decades, Dr Stolyarenko has held a number of senior executive positions with leading financial institutions in Russia, including as President and Chairman of the Executive Board of Evrofinance Mosnarbank. In addition to his banking career, he was also a Partner in the Moscow office of international law firm Lawrence Graham, which was later renamed Wragge Lawrence Graham and now trades as Gowlings WLG.
Dr Vladimir Stolyarenko started his professional career by managing and providing strategic guidance to the Russian office of an international auditing group headquartered in France between 1990 and 1993. Over time, he progressed to holding various board positions in large public companies, academic and professional organisations as well as a number of non-profits, initially in Russia, but in the later years almost exclusively abroad.
In addition to his business and professional achievements, Dr Vladimir Stolyarenko has always had an enduring academic interest in finance, law, and lately, technology, having both taught and participated in a variety of research and advanced educational programmes in these fields.
Dr Stolyarenko commenced his academic path in 1986 as an Associate Professor at St. Petersburg Institute of Economics and Finance. Later he became a Senior Researcher at the Institute of State and Law and a Visiting Professor at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
Since 2012 Dr Stolyarenko has been residing outside of Russia, where he continued his academic and professional development. For example, he became a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Law School’s Program on International Financial Systems operated by Hal S. Scott, the Emeritus Nomura professor of International Financial Systems. Dr Stolyarenko also graduated from the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. More recently, he successfully completed online a number of advanced IT programmes, including “No Code Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” as well as “Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy”, both administered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr Vladimir Stolyarenko holds a PhD in Economics and a Doctorate in Law. In addition, he completed a post-graduate program at Harvard Law School as well as a joint Executive Global MBA Program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and the London Business School. In the past, he has also qualified as a Certified International Investment Analyst – CIIA.
In addition to his professional career and academic endeavours, Dr Vladimir Stolyarenko has been a patron of the arts and education for most of his adult life, more recently supporting both the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Ballet and Opera. Additionally, for many years Dr Stolyarenko has established and funded several student scholarships as well as academic research grant programmes at the London Business School, Columbia Business School, and Harvard Law School, of which he is an alumnus.
