About me
Currently working on a range of design and visual communication projects that encompass: visual and brand identity, book, annual report, marketing, websites, catalogues, and B2B, consumer and customer media; in both print and digital channels for clients nationally and internationally. Alongside my design work, I’m engaged in design strategy and management for clients that include: media (print, digital and broadcast), fashion retail, finance, and manufacturing.
  • Romek Marber and the Observer magazine
Romek Marber and the Observer magazineAs art director of the Observer magazine between 1996 and 2002, I would regularly spend time in the archive studying the work of my predecessors. And frequently found myself looking at the issues created by the launch art director Romek Marber, who sadly passed away in March 2020.
So it was an honour when Marber’s partner Orna Frommer-Dawson contacted me and asked if I would be willing to contribute a few words about his work for the Observer, produced between 1964 and 1965, for a new website
  • Self-initiated poster design
Self-initiated poster designOver the last few years as I walk the Salisbury Plain Training Area in Wiltshire, I’ve been taking photographs of the landscape and the marks left on it by the military activity. Although not a conscious decision these photographs taken in the UK’s largest military training ground are largely devoid of any physical human presence, even though I encounter troops regularly. However I have found myself making notes of the Tactical Recognition Flashes (TRF) or Drop Zone Flash (DZ) that these troop
  • Socially Engaged Art Salon (SEAS)
Socially Engaged Art Salon (SEAS)To coincide with its exhibition Gaslighting, curated by artist Miranda Gavin, that highlights the work of artists who have had direct experience of domestic abuse. The Socially Engaged Art Salon, Brighton (SEAS) invited designers and artists to produce a poster to raise awareness of this ‘hidden pandemic.’ During the coronavirus pandemic incidents of domestic abuse have increased by up to 300%; with the UK charity Refuge recording a 700% increase in calls to its helpline in a single day. • Fedrigoni 365
Fedrigoni 365For its 2021 calendar paper manufacturer Fedrigoni invited designers to each interpret a number assigned to them alongside a ‘seed’ word for inspiration. I was given the number 10 and the word ‘expand’. Using variable data software at the printing stage all the numeric designs submitted to the Fedrigoni 365 project where allocated to a relevant date randomly. Resulting in each of the 4000 copies of the calendar printed being entirely unique, with no two copies the same.
  • PERU 1982
PERU 1982Website design to support the launch of photographer Tony Hutchings’ book PERU 1982, which I also designed.
  • PERU 1982
PERU 1982I’m delighted to have designed PERU 1982 a book by photographer Tony Hutchings, who traveled 15,000 kilometres across the South American country in a secondhand Volkswagen Beetle in the early 1980s. During this remarkable six month road trip he documented the rich culture, landscape and people of Peru; with these vibrant images now forming this self-published book. Print: Gomer Printing. Cloth: Wicotex Brillianta by Winter & Co. Paper: Claro Silk from Antalis, and Colorplan by G.F. Smith.

  • On The Cover of a Magazine
On The Cover of a MagazineThere is nothing quite like getting your photo on the cover of a magazine. I have shot fashion, portraits, reportage and group shots for the Guardian Weekend, Observer Life and several travel and music magazines. It requires a bold image with a strong narrative leading into the story and space for text. Working with the legendary Wayne Ford and Mark Porter meant the images always looked amazing. I was given the freedom to tell the story as I saw it with humour, colour and female power, which at
