About me
My name is Zach Hobson and I have been building my broadcast journalism experience for the last three years. I have recently graduated with merit from the MA Broadcast Journalism (BJTC accredited) course at the University of Sheffield. In 2018 I also began an on-location sports commentary coverage for local Manchester student sport. Alongside writing for the Manchester Evening News and the Wolverhampton Wanderers reporter Tim Nash, I am a broadcaster at heart. I have been working on multiple stories using a range of equipment from mobile phones to advanced DSLR and recording stations. I have covered stories from Sheffield on various subjects eg: including Sheffield Wednesday match preview, Food Banks, Climate Change Protests, and mental health treatment. I am not afraid to tackle more difficult subjects and I am dedicated to any story that I bring to the newsroom or get assigned to do.

In 2018 I also began an on-location sports commentary coverage for local Manchester student sport. I provided live commentary for the station on sports such as Football (men and women), hockey, lacrosse, rugby and netball. The show was produced by ex-radio 5 reporter and producer Vince Hunt. I developed my delivery and timing while doing this and has ignited my passion for my live discussion, commentary, and live sport.

While pursuing my undergraduate degree in Manchester I also worked on student radio to improve my desk skills as both a producer and a presenter. I worked on a studio sports talk show with student-athletes and coaches. We provided light-hearted interviews with the guests and provided some games and segments based on their sport or skills. This show ran for two years and was arguably the most popular show on the Hive Radio network and we also uploaded the show as a podcast. During this time, I was constantly tasked with idea/project development.

The Broadcast Journalism MA is a BJTC accredited course and where I studied to build my skill across media law and ethics and how to report, write, and tell a story to its full potencial. While studying we were constantly being tasked with telling new local stories and following leads within the local communities. I became versed and passionate about speaking to both old and young people and finding examples of events and people that were newsworthy.
