I craft words for a living — which, at its heart, is about feelings. It's about using these 26 little letters of the English alphabet to transmit a feeling from me, sat tapping away at my laptop, to folks out there in the world going about their day. Maybe it's a feeling of 'I am safe'. Or 'I want to buy this'. A feeling of 'I want to donate', or 'I'm inspired to know more'.
As someone who grew up in an environment which wasn't always the most kind or caring, I — like many kids in similar circumstances — learned to cut off from my emotions as a means of self-protection. It often feels like my adult life has been spent on a journey to reconnect to myself and my own emotions. And it's a big reason why I write.
I am currently Head of Writing at Bloom (a mental health app), and Editor-in-chief of Anxiety Empire (a print magazine soon to launch its second edition).
