Does anyone know how to make the angles of the star's sides like the one below and give it keyframes? (in AE)

  • To create and animate a star shape with specific angles in Adobe After Effects, start by using the Polygon Tool to draw the star. Set the number of points and adjust the inner and outer radius to define the angles of the star's sides.

  • @Mohammad Saeid Lachini you can also select just a few points, then ctrl/cmd + T to transform just those points and change their path property. Maybe then you'll have more uniform results :)
  • @Sten Ritterfeld Hi! Thank you for taking the time to guide me. The result isn't precise with the Bezier path, so I think I should try the other method you mentioned.
  • @Santiago Garcia Hey! I didn't mean the roundness, I was referring to the inner angles of the star that I intended to change, meaning to open and close. Anyway, I did it by keyframing the path, but it didn’t turn out very clean or smooth.
    Thank you for your response.
  • Hey! It might be a bit too late, but in Ae you have the possibility to create a Star shape layer. There, in Contents/Polystar/ Inner roundness you'll be able to change and keyframe the roundness of the inner angles.

I hope this helps! If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask, or you could join the After Effects Discord where there's so many talented animators willing to help.

  • Hi there Mohammad! I'm not quite sure what you mean with making the angles of the star's sides. Do you want the star to appear and keyframe its shape? For that, you could convert to a bezier path and individually change each path. Though personally, I'd recreate it with a triangle (one point of the star, basically) and then use the repeater tool to get what you need. You could then keyframe the repeater copies, for example :)
