Hello just revamped my illustration website. Would anyone like to have a look and give me some feedback? www.michaelfernsillustration.com

I have revamped my website as I wanted to focus it more on illustration. I have been ruthless and got rid of a lot of items which I felt were no longer relevant. I wanted to keep it consistent.

If people could have a look then I would be most grateful. Also to bear in mind is that on a phone/ipod, the instagram icon becomes a facebook icon. Unless you put the website into web mode. Be good to see what people get if they are looking at it on their phones.

All feedback is welcome.

Thanks once again

Michael

  • @Adam Zygadlo Thanks for your advice. That was very helpful. There are few good ideas which I have done or I will do. The more can’t be changed unfortunately as that how the template is set up. See what I can do with the other things.

    Kind Regards
    Michael
  • Hey Micheal,

    Hope you are well and keeping yourself safe.

    Here are my comments to your site... (I am using PC desktop, while using Chome)

    >>> Homepage:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- I would add a <title> to all images, when highlighing on them. Maybe link to the project if it's on the website.

    --- I would add a link to the image of yourself and direct it to your "About Me" page.

    --- Maybe add your contact details or a clear link to your contact page. At present, there's no clear information to find your contact details.

    --- Change "More" to "Contact Me" as there's only one option at present and seems pointless to have "More", if there's only one list.

    >>> About me page:
    Lovely layout for this page.
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- I would add a <title> to all images, when highlighing on them. Maybe link to the project if it's on the website.

    --- I would highlight like bolding or another colour key facts within your bodycopy of text to drive your point to the user, for example "Over 1000 copies have been sold."

    >>> Jersey Heritage Page:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- I would add a <title> to all images, when highlighing on them. Maybe link to the project if it's on the website.

    --- I would remove the full-size feature to some of the images as they are fairly large on screen already. I would add a link to them and it will take the user to another page, which talks about the project in detail with more images to that project.

    --- For the slideshow thumbnails, could you arrange them to the middle of the page, instead of being on the left side?

    >>> Location page:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- I would add more information to the first paragraph of text... Something like what inspires you, why do you paint these location, etc?

    --- For the slideshow thumbnails, could you arrange them to the middle of the page, instead of being on the left side?

    --- Maybe rename "Location" to "Inspriation" instead?

    >>> Design page:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- I would add more information to the first paragraph of text... Something like how long have you been a designer, how long have you used the software, etc.

    --- For the slideshow thumbnails, could you arrange them to the middle of the page, instead of being on the left side?

    >>> Commission page:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- Could you combine "Design" and "Commisions" pages into one and call it "Portfolio"

    --- I would list all clients that you have worked with on top of the page, instead of bottom. Listing them as logos and have links to the examples of work, if possible.

    >>> More page:
    Suggestions as follow...
    --- Rename to "Contact" / "Contact me". Remove the list in the Nav... Only use it if you have more then 1 page list.

    --- Could you add your contact details like mobile number or email?

    I hope this helps you out.

    Kind regards,
    Addz
  • @Mirko Nardecchia Thank you for your feedback. Yeah it’s quite tricky with the layout on the phone. Looks better on a computer but I’ll look into it more. Kind Regards :)
  • Hi Michael,

    I've clicked your link on mobile and the first thing I see is text taking over the whole screen, then I see your portrait, then finally comes your work.

    I see that on desktop it looks different and you have a big header, it's worth considering revising your mobile layout, so that you can wow your visitors as soon as they land on your website with your gorgeous illustrations.

    The images on the homepage are clickable but nothing really happen when you click, they just get a tiny bit bigger, could they take the user to your portfolio so they can find out more about that illustration?

    Lovely illustration :)
    Thanks for sharing
    Mirko
