How Overused Styles Diminish Their Impact

Name some visual styles that are great in their own right, but overuse makes them lose their value. Here are some that I noticed:
1. Synthwave/Retrowave visuals;
2. This type of poster, mostly for underground stuff: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/460774605636299819/
3. Liquid chrome typography: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/730216527105727867/

Why I mention this: it's ok if this is used for some business thing, but if someone uses it for their own needs, it alludes to "adorning oneself with someone else's feathers". It's fake, it's not ok. The essence of uncreativity.
Some portfolios are entirely based on copying styles, what's the point? In my opinion, that's a good impersonation skill, not thought-through work.

Opinions?
