How to start a career in the art world?

I am currently at the end of my studies in art history and cultural heritage. I'd like to put to practice the knowledge I gained

  • Hi Miriam,

I worked with cultural institutions as a graphic designer when I graduated. I would say that the best way to approach the art world is to take a strong interest in it, to go to conferences, to openings, to post-opening parties ;-) Make friends, don't hesitate to propose collaborations and to initiate projects by yourself (artists and curators are always in demand of quality writers), sometimes very confidential things can have a great impact. Often budgets are restricted in cultural circles, so you have to know how to give but also be in the right place at the right time to take back, it can become a very political game sometimes.
You need to feed your creativity and your inner world with a lot of reading, from theorists to historians to poets... Finally I would say that the best way to be noticed for your work is to respect your sensitivity, your intuitions and your values, and to keep your integrity without any compromises.

Hopefully this will give you some motivation,

    Best.
