I'm looking for a point in the right direction from anyone that has experience with sustainable and ethical clothing/manufacturing

I started a personal brand during university but I lost quality and the brands ethics due to the quick turnaround needed for university hand-ins. Now I've graduated I want to take time to learn and source the best materials and gain contacts in the clothing manufacturing industry and would love any advice, contacts and businesses that might be able to help!

  • Hi! Not sure how much detail you want but there's lots of schemes like Better Cotton Initiative and WRAP https://wrap.org.uk/sustainable-textiles is a general website that do stat reports and have everything you need to know. The True Costs is also a must watch film covering sustainablity, consumption and ethics (cotton pesticides and pay mainly). Stacey Dooley's Fashion's Dirty Secerets is also really good and focusses alot on dye pollution and the water consumption of cotton (check out the Aral sea and Citarum river).

There's many different takes on sustainable fashion like "Buy less. Choose well. Make it last." or focussing on pay and ethics (Fashion Revolution is really good for this) https://www.fashionrevolution.org/ . You can also focus on zero waste, chemical pollution like dyeing (you can get natural dyes and prints) there's lots of avenues but these are just a few! Hope this helps :)
