Less than 19 days to apply to our European Fine Art Masters. Learn more about the core modules — Mémoire and History & Philosophy of Art

— Mémoire

In French culture, the word mémoire, ("a memory" – indefinite article), reflects the writer's own experiences and memories.

Mémoire encourages a creative response to the traditional dissertation. Working across both years, students undertake a body of research that identifies, articulates, and contextualizes the themes within their work. The final object of this research is a creative response that can be presented in many different forms.

— History & Philosophy of Art

Students are introduced to a wide range of theories related to contemporary practice including embodied learning, intersectionality, permaculture and transition arts, meta-narratives, storytelling, and more. Social, cultural and environmental issues are also considered through discourse addressing the rise of production, exchange and values, new materiality, thing theory, consumerism and ethics.
