Looking for help in getting my foot in the creative industry as an animator but I remain uncertain as to what sort of support is needed.

To be honest, I'm not sure what exactly I am in need of. I graduated back in 2019, having studied animation, and have since struggled to gain an entry point.

As time has gone by I have felt rather lost and this is something that has been exasperated by the all that is 2020.

I've struggled in finding support or just someone to talk to about this but I have had no luck. I've tried looking for appropriate opportunites such as interships or even support group/mentroring but struggled to find anything. Earlier this yeah I had come across some things such as Kickstart schemes as well as a few mentor schemes but these are available to only those who are between the ages of 16-24, I turned 25 at the start of the year. With this, things fell very directionless and I'm not certain as to what can be done to help me to continue progressing forward

I am making efforts to improve my own skills and abilities, as well as learning more but in the meantime but it remains challenging, especially without appropriate support and a clear path.

  • Hello Jordan I got across this platform recently called https://prospela.com
You can sign up here for a menthol from the industry. Might be positive think to do. Good luck
  • Hey Jordan. I can definitely relate in some ways. I'm a self-taught animator. Thing is I'm 35! I decided to completely change career paths two years ago and it's certainly been a challenge. I say change career paths, not entirely sure I was ever on a particular career path. But I digress.

    As you mentioned:
Struggling to gain an entry point- check!
    Feeling rather lost- check!
Mentor schemes only available to people between 16-24- big fucking check!

I know this may possibly sound patronising but 25 is still so young- in a good way. You're by no means edged out of the industry or opportunities (barring some age-restrictive mentor schemes you mentioned) because of your age.

I'm currently doing a very relaxed internship for a Fintech startup company as a motion graphics designer/animator. It's ok but I need to find something with monetary compensation soon. On a side note they're currently taking on some new interns for motion graphics, so I can definitely see if they could give you a 3 month internship?

Anyway, I could've talked a lot longer on this general subject as your post really stood out to me, but I'll just end up rambling. My main point would be don't get disheartened. You're young, qualified and as long as you're even marginally better than someone like me in terms of networking (I'm terrible) you'll be fine.
