OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: The Future is Bright Project
The Future is Bright is a new project Create the Future is launching to celebrate the seasons and the hope each of them brings.
We are running a competition to find high-quality creative work to feature in a 2025 Environmental Calendar. The current theme is SPRING and SUMMER.
We are seeking environmental and ecological artwork which imagines what Spring and Summer might look like in a future where climate action has led to a thriving world of biodiversity, sustainability, community, resilience, reform, and hope. Which climate solutions do you think will shine in the Springs and Summers of our future? What kind of food will be eaten and grown? What does your city/town/landscape look and feel like in this future time? What kinds of flowers will be in bloom? Show us the kind of future you’d love to live in and what Spring and Summertime means for that place. We celebrate climate visions rooted in hope and climate justice, showing the way to a greener, fairer world.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
We are particularly keen on visual artwork but are also open to poems (of up to 16 lines) or short flash-fiction/micro-fiction pieces (up to 250 words).
We’ll be looking for these core elements Spring/Summer theme Summer theme Creative climate solutions Hope in action Visions of the future.

Vivid imagery and Sensory Experience:
Distinct sounds and smells, bright sunlight, beautiful blooming flowers, buzzing insects, crashing waves can all be vividly described in writing or expressed through artwork. What do these seasons sound like to you?
Symbolism and Themes:
Spring and Summer are often associated with themes of growth, freedom, adventure, and transformation. What kind of changes would you like to see to ensure that these seasons in the future are thriving?
Seasonal Changes and Contrasts: The seasonal change to Spring and Summer brings not only a difference in the weather but also a change in our daily routines, our activities, and plans. This shift could be used to symbolise transformation. How do you use these months to connect with nature?

- @Jenna Acheampong Hey Jenna, the deadline has been extended to November and we are going to open it up to Autumn and Winter submissions soon so please feel free to submit ideas for these seasons as well! And yes, digital artwork is very welcome :)

We're currently drafting a few format ideas for the calendar, it really depends on how much creative content we get but at the moment we're thinking of formatting it as having the art / writing on a whole landscape a4 page above the calendar for the month (which will be set out in weekly rows). Let me know if you have any questions about it and I can show you some examples. :)
